The 2000s has drew many different trends from many different decades of the 1900s. There were many "mash up" fashions of previous styles. Fashion also was very music-based from subcultures like hip-hop, and gangster fashions. With the many different trends came with recycled vintage clothing styles. This included eco-friendly clothing and ethical clothing like fake fur. At the beginning of the 2000s was the rise of the hipster trend. This started as an anti-fashion outlook that men and women began to have.
When 9/11 occurred, many Americans were frightened and scared on what had happened and why. American patriotism showed greatly after this event. The general public bought mainly American made clothing. Denim was also a trend that reoccured because people were in favor of more conventional, conservative clothing post 9/11.
In the 2000s skinny jeans were reintroduced. Sales of skinny jeans increased by 80%. Skinny jeans also became available in retail stores. Youth was also influenced by music based subcultures like seen in many other decades. New subcultures were influencing them though like Indie Kids, Preppy, and Hip Hop. Another fad of young America was the sports brands like Nike, Addidas, and Air Jordan.
Today present day fashions are varied from all different decades and things are always coming back from the past. There seems to be reoccurring cycles of clothing trends based on what is popular. My prediction for the future fashion is that it will evolve with the new technology and music. Over the decades of the 90s, fashion has transformed in completely new ways due to what new technology and music is coming out. Americans seem to love famous stars and be greatly influenced by what they wear. In every decade stars are leading fashion role models and trend setters. I believe that whatever new star or technology arises will lead the fashion in a new direction, but yet always still have variations and trends from the past coming back. Fashion can take so many new directions based on the kind of generation is living. I believe in the generation we live in big fashion events will occur because we are the first generation to grow up with the technology of cell phones and ipods. Nothing like this has ever happened in history and whenever something big occurs it always has an impact on fashion.
